Editor review

Dot Cycle is a pattern-collection arcade where you gather dots in a specific colour sequence. The format combines the Pac-Man tradition with Simon Says memory mechanics, and the combination works for the right audience.

What works is the pattern-memory layer. You see the target sequence at the top of the screen and have to collect dots in that exact order. Wrong-colour grabs reset the level. The memory load builds quickly as sequences lengthen.

Eighty levels with escalating sequence lengths. Early levels have three or four colour sequences. Late levels reach ten or twelve colours. Players develop chunking strategies (grouping colours into pairs or triples) to handle the long sequences.

Tested over four Cross River Rail commutes between Roma Street and South Bank. Touch swipe is the natural input. Keyboard arrow keys are also comfortable. Mouse-click on dots is supported but slower than directional input.

Where the design earns its rating is the colour-blind accommodation. Each colour has a distinct shape outline (circles, squares, triangles, diamonds) in addition to colour, so players who cannot distinguish all colours can still play the pattern format.

Where I would push back is the absence of a learning-aid hint mode. Casual players who hit a wall around the seventh-colour mark would benefit from optional sequence-replay hints. The current design has no support for stuck players beyond restarting.

Three-and-a-half stars. Solid pattern-collection arcade with thoughtful colour-blind support. Limited by absence of hint mode.
