Editor review

Wave Relay is a rhythm-arcade where you tap to hand off a baton between runners on the beat. The premise is a relay race where the entire skill is the hand-off timing. Thirty levels across three difficulty tiers.

What works is the audio-visual sync. The beat indicator pulses tightly with the music. Tap response is immediate. The mechanical foundation supports the rhythm format.

What does not work is the depth. Every level uses the same tap-on-beat mechanic. No combination patterns, no special powers, no variation in runner behaviour. After ten levels the format reveals it has nothing more to add.

Tested over two Cross River Rail commute sessions before stopping. Touch is the natural input. Keyboard space-bar also works. The format does not depend on input precision; the audio-visual sync does most of the work.

Where the game tries hardest is the visual presentation. Animated runners with distinct silhouettes. Crowd-cheering audio on perfect hand-offs. The visual side does not let down the package; the design does.

Where I would push back is the absence of mechanical evolution beyond the basic format. Adding multiple lanes, baton-swap directions, or runner-fatigue mechanics would have given the format depth. Thirty levels of the same basic mechanic is too thin.

Three stars. Functional rhythm-relay arcade with strong audio-visual sync but thin mechanical depth. Worth a single playthrough if you like rhythm games.
