Editor review

Spiral Burst is a puzzle-arcade with a spiral-expansion mechanic that I have not seen before in browser games. A central spiral expands outward continuously; tap segments to clear them before they reach the edge. Match colour-targets for scoring. The combination is more interesting than any single element suggests.

What works is the expansion-pressure dynamic. The spiral grows at a fixed rate. You cannot pause it. Clearing segments faster than the expansion gives you breathing room; clearing slower means segments stack up at the edge until the level fails. The pressure forces decisions on every tap.

One hundred levels across five tiers. Tier one teaches single-colour clearing. Tier two adds two-colour targets with priority. Tier three introduces rotation that makes target segments harder to track. Tier four adds split spirals (two centres expanding). Tier five combines everything. The progression respects the player and never feels arbitrary.

Tested across maybe twenty hours over a month. South Bank cafe sessions plus Brisbane Library afternoons plus Cross River Rail commutes. Touch with tap-to-clear is the natural input. Mouse-click works but the expansion pace rewards rapid-fire touch over individual mouse clicks.

Where the design earns its high rating is the daily challenge mode. Every day a fresh spiral with a global leaderboard. Times and scores compared against other players. The competitive-puzzle element gives the format infinite replay value beyond the main campaign.

Where I would push back is the absence of a no-pressure mode. The expansion timer is the core mechanic, but players who want pure puzzle-solving without time pressure have no option. A static-spiral mode (clear at your own pace) would have given the format additional accessibility.

Four-and-a-half stars. Strong spiral-expansion puzzle-arcade with thoughtful tier progression and excellent daily-challenge implementation. Recommended for puzzle-arcade fans without reservation.
